I too wonder about their choices from time to time -- some of their stories are stunningly well-written, others are so-so. I guess it all goes back to "taste".

I haven't read Premium Harmony yet - hopefully this weekend.

As I said, I loved the voice in MOANING. Just read TATTOO WOMAN. It had a surprising ending, which was nice because you did a good job building up to it so that it was both unexpected but inevitable. I loved the sequence of punching the photograph and his attempt to hide it, then her reaction.

I made that commitment and am so far behind, they are stacked ankle high. Just did a sort and pulled the ones that look most promising to my taste and will "re-set" in January.

I liked Complicity. It was trying a bit hard, but it flowed, and I found the ending more satisfying than some.

Jennie -- I've read some other people's take on the story, and they agreed with you. "Boring" seems to be the consensus. Maybe I'm too easy...?

Foggy, yes. But not in a good way. I found this story uninvolving and boring, and I didn't like or care about the characters. I had to force myself to go on reading, and only continued because it was in the New Yorker.

Someone just shot my this link to a video of James Ellroy. It captures the same sentiments as Bukowski:
